A long day

Today we have cycled 215km and climbed 2167m, according to the GPS log. That may well end up being the longest day of the trip as we will not be able to manage such long distances when we get into the mountains proper. The countryside has been very pleasant and the route has been great - someone has clearly put a lot of effort into working out the route.

We have not done a single col, although there have been a few cotes and some of the climbs have 'gone on a bit'.

Wildlife highlights have included a pair of yellow hammers, a couple of green woodpeckers at close quarters and a hare, which lollopped down the road in front of us while we were doing 20mph.

The weather has been a bit missly again, with the odd period of more persistent rain. The sun did show itself briefly this evening and we even had a shadow - woo hoo! As Steve says - at least we are saving our sun cream!

Tonight we are getting our heads down in Beaune.
