Stairway to heaven

Our wonderful chalet

Thanks so much for all of the contributions to our Justgiving page everyone.

The stairway came in the form of the climb up to col  Bagargui. The heaven came when we eventually found someone to check us in to one of the chalets up here (it was looking touch and go for a while).

Today we have covered 165km and climbed 3236m - quite a tough day in the continuing heat.

Disregarding tonight, which seems fairly ordinary so far, our last two evening meal experiences couldn't have been more different. The previous night was high cuisine and our waitress lady was very obliging and, knowing we were doing a lot of cycling, she made sure we had plenty of bread with our meal. Last night our waitress was built more like a brick outhouse than most of the body builders I see down the gym. She even had a certain stance as if from a lifetime of 'benching'. Aside from all of that, though, the most distinguishing aspect of this lady was her expression when we asked for things (like when I had to ask that we should have a towel each rather than sharing one). She would give us a look as if to say "you want WHAT". Presumably honed from years of dealing with 'difficult' passing cyclists.

By the way, after several days with no cols whatsoever, we are now, finally back into col country - our total from Saverne is now up to 24.
